Unpredictable California Weather & Your Home

Unpredictable California Weather & Your Home

People generally associate California with gorgeous sunshine and swaying palms, but the reality is that when it comes to the weather, we live in a very diverse state. In fact, the California town of Truckee in the Sierra Nevada mountain range ranks among the top 5 US towns for snowfall, according to The Weather Channel. Wherever you live in California, weather can be unpredictable. To ensure you’re protected from weather hazards, it’s important to constantly review your California home insurance coverage.

Snow, hail, storms, lightning, wildfires and tornados all play their part in an annual damage bill that reaches into the millions. Standard home insurance policies may cover your home building and contents should they be destroyed or damaged from some of the extremes of Mother Nature. It always pays to take some precautions and help minimize any potential damage. Whatever conditions you’re facing, there some steps you can take to weather-proof your home. The Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety has a handy website with suggestions for everything from protecting your home from wildlife to guidelines on how to build a safe room.

For financial security, it’s advisable to think of a worst case scenario and purchase enough insurance to cover the rebuilding of your home should it be completely destroyed. Being left short could be financially and emotionally devastating for your family. Always feel free to speak to your California home insurance agent for advice and tips.
