The Time Change And Your California Auto Insurance

The Time Change And Your California Auto Insurance

Two times each year, Americans gear up for a time change. We set clocks backward or forward depending on the time of year and have to adjust our body clocks over one night in order to have a successful next day. We don’t know about you, but time adjustment is hard on the body. This Saturday night before you go to bed, be sure to set your clocks back an hour so you wake up at the proper time in the morning! Look at the bright side…you will get one extra hour of sleep over the weekend! The actual time changes happens at 1:59pm, but unless you plan to stay awake until then, change your clocks before bed!

Have you ever wondered why we “Spring forward” or “Fall back?” In 1784, Benjamin Franklin mentioned the modern day idea of Daylight Savings Time, but it wasn’t until 1895 when George Vernon Hudson proposed the idea that the world actually took notice and implemented the changes. The purpose is to conserve energy, life in concert with the natural light of the day and for public safety.

Automobile accidents are much more common in the evening when it’s dark. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety estimates that our efforts to adjust clocks to natural light cause accidents to reduce by 1.2% including a 5% reduction of crashes fatal to pedestrians. It is much safer for drivers to drive with the proper light and California Auto Insurance all year around, DST is a great step in the right direction!

Since the time is changed every 6 months, make an effort to check these household items each time you switch your clocks: Check batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, prepare or replenish your disaster supply kit, clean out your rain gutters from leaves and dust that may have gathered and discard any expired food and medications. By correlating this checklist with the time change, you will accomplish a lot more then you imagined!
