Over the past few months our office has seen a huge jump in additions of “new” drivers to California auto insurance policies. We see this time and time again when a family celebrates the 16th birthday of a child, or grades are finally at a 3.0 and the child is allowed to get their license, and their rates skyrocket. Our staff at Remland Insurance is trained to seek out and provide our customers the very best rate, but the bottom line is, young drivers are expensive to insure.

Teenagers are known to get in frequent car accidents, drive distracted and due to their lack of experience your insurance carrier has the ability to classify new drivers however they please. The following tips may help secure a lower rate when you go to add a young driver to your policy:

  • Ask your California insurance carrier about discounts available for good grades
  • Increase your physical damage deductibles or,for older vehicles, eliminate this coverage
  • Have your child practice, practice, practicebeyond the recommended hours of driving school
  • Build a good relationship with your insurance agent to insure they are getting you’re the best coverage available
  • If you plan to get your child a car, purchase are liable used one! It will save you money and make a huge difference on yourrates
  • Consider putting your child on a separate policyif rates are unmanageable
  • Ask your child to pay for a portion or all of their monthly California auto insurance coverage

Our staff at Remland Insurance is very experienced in the matter of teen drivers and would be happy to answer any further questions you may have regarding this issue.  We would also greatly appreciate the opportunity to quote your California insurance coverage in 2014!
