Today, December 6th is considered St. Nicholas Day around the world! Though the holiday is not celebrated much in the United States, it’s a huge celebration in Northern Europe. Traditionally gifts are left in children’s shoes (from which American Christmas stockings were developed) overnight and are a huge surprise for children in the morning!
Good children receive treats such as candy, cookies, applesand nuts while naughty children receive a lump of coal. In Germany and theNetherlands many children still put their shoes outside their bedroom door orin front of their home’s chimney on December 5th and look forward toSt. Nicholas leaving a treat overnight.
St. Nicholas sure has his hands full getting to each home in Europe, and leaving them treats…but the real hard work comes for Santa Claus on December 24 when he makes his way around the world all in one night! If your family plans to “rent” a Santa Claus…be sure to purchase the proper Santa Claus Insurance coverage this holiday season!
