Santa Claus Insurance Coverage

The holidays have officially arrived here in the City of Orange! The Plaza is lined with beautiful garland, shops have their window fronts decked out with amazing Christmas displays and the smell of freshly made candy steams from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory each day. Christmas is such an exciting time for children and the man they typically look forward to seeing is Santa Clause himself!

If Uncle Steve is a regular guest in your home that is dressed up as Santa, and he accidently sets his beard on fire or falls off the roof, his injuries would be covered under your typical California homeowner’s policy. But if you plan on hiring a “Santa” to make a guest appearance at this year’s celebrations, you may want to reconsider the implications of any potential accident that may occur during his appearance. Be sure to ask for proof of workers compensation insurance from the company you hire “Santa” from and if he is a sole proprietor, we advise you avoid the entire transaction at all.

You are much better off renting a costume and having a family member act the part then invite an uninsured performer into your home this holiday season. With a little make-up and a fake beard…the kids will not even recognize their relative and the night will be memorable for everyone! Taking your kids to the mall to meet Santa is probably the best way to safely see Santa each Christmas, and the photo opportunities are usually priceless!

Merry Christmas from all of us at Remland Insurance Services!
