Orange County Residents Upset Over New Fire Zone Boundaries

Orange County Residents Upset Over New Fire Zone Boundaries

It was brought to our attention today that homeowners across Orange County have some serious concerns with the newly updated fire hazard maps. Since California state law requires fire officials to update fire hazard zones and maps periodically, residents really have no say in new boundaries or zoning of their homes. This year the boundaries have upset many residents because of the rating given to some potentially hazardous zones across South County.

As many of you may know, California home insurance premiums can be affected by the area that your home is in. Some specifics include: slopes, fire hazard levels & fire prevention measures taken. Residents are concerned that once their home insurance carrier hears of the fire zone changes they could experience a rate increase or even have their insurance dropped.

Fire prevention is considered the responsibility of the state and local authorities. These new fire zone maps have been created to help fire and police officials prepare a better “game plan” if a fire broke out. Now would be a great time to have your insurance agent review your California home insurance and make sure you have the very best coverage possible for your home and family. Fire hazard maps are in place to help better serve and protect the Orange County area, and with so many insurance options to choose from, it’s best to review your coverage and carrier’s limits to gain a piece of mind.
