Just How Much ‘Stuff’ Do You Own?
Even if you don’t own a home, you still have STUFF! You can get a California renter’s insurance policy to cover your STUFF! Most insurance companies have a specific policy for renters. The renters policy covers the following:
- your STUFF when you have a loss
- additional living expenses if you have to live somewhere else while your place is being fixed,
- medical expenses for people who get hurt on your property
- lawsuits
Property Coverage
A standard renter’s policy provides Actual Cash Value for any of your STUFF that is lost (replacement cost less the depreciation on that item). You can always buy extra coverage for full Replacement Cost.
Theft Coverage
Some STUFF, such as jewelry, furs, gems, gold, silverware, money, guns are most often stolen. Insurance companies offer limited coverage for theft of these items. You can buy additional renter’s insurance coverage to increase the coverage on any of these items.
Additional Living Expenses
20% of the value of your STUFF is the standard payment for additional living expenses, if you need to be out of your home for a period of time. [ex. if your contents limit is $15,000, then your additional living expenses limit will be $3,000.]
Liability Coverage
Liability insurance covers you if someone gets hurt on your property or if you damage someone else’s property. The policy also covers the cost of a lawyer (if necessary) and most court costs.
