Tips to Improve Your Car’s Fuel Efficiency

Cut down on gas consumption by adopting these fuel-saving habits.

Do you find yourself constantly stopping at the gas station to top up your tank? If so, you may need to reassess your driving habits. Simply driving a little more carefully and cautiously can do wonders for your wallet – and the environment!

Use these tips to conserve fuel while driving.

Empty the trunk. Are you carrying around unnecessary weight? If you have heavy items in your trunk, such as golf clubs, your car will need to use more fuel to haul the goods. If possible, keep your trunk empty to conserve gas.

Accelerate smoothly. The perfect way to travel is at a constant speed (ideally around 50mph). If you are a patient driver who accelerates slowly, you will have lower fuel bills. The car uses more gas when you step on the accelerator, as opposed to gently accelerating.

Check the tire pressures. The lower the tire pressure, the more fuel the car needs to move it down the road. Especially in the cooler weather, check your tires often to ensure that they are within 5 psi of the recommended levels from the manufacturer.

Stick to the speed limit. Driving at 50mpg is more economical to your wallet than driving at 70mpg. Even if you have to leave 20 minutes earlier, stick to stick to speed limits and slow down instead of paying out at the gas pump!

Make fewer trips. This is obvious, but it is so frequently overlooked. Driving a car that has been parked for a few hours with a cold engine uses much more fuel for the first five or so miles. Ideally, combine all of your daily errands into one trip so that you’re not making multiple trips, which use up more fuel.

Now that you know how to conserve fuel for your journey, take the time to properly insure your vehicle! At Remland Insurance, we’re dedicated to giving each driver the coverage they can count on. Visit us today to get started.
