Home Security Tips to Secure Your Home
According to the FBI, a burglary happens every 16 seconds in the U.S. Is your home next?
Your home is your most valuable possession and investment, along with everything inside of it. It is a place where you want to feel safe and secure from the potential danger of the outside world. Engaging and practicing in some very basic home security practices is the first step in creating a secure environment for your loved ones and family.
- Landscaping should be done with safety in mind. As you walk around your property, look for areas that could be potential hiding spots for would-be thieves. Try and clear these areas, or focus some light to reveal what’s hidden in the shadow.
- Know your neighbors. It’s time to forgive your neighbor for returning your wrench six months after they borrowed it. Encourage them to watch out for any suspicious activity around your house when you’re not home. And offer to do the same when they are not home. That way, both backs are left scratched.
- Don’t overdo online shopping. Thieves love a home with boxes with goodies placed outside the door. It’s called porch pirating, so consider having them delivered to an Amazon Locker or a P.O. box.
- Manage visibility with your doors. You should be able to see who is outside of your door without ever having to open it. A security camera installed with your doorbell will give you the visibility you need. There are also systems that alert your smartphone when you’re not home and even communicate them from your hotel room in Mexico.
A quality home insurance policy covers your home against fire, storm, smoke, theft, vandalism, and a number of other damages.
