Holiday Safety Tips
The holidays are a great time to be with friends and family, but the holidays don’t come without their own set of unique risks.
Everyone enjoys the holidays. It gives us a much-needed break from work (some careers excluded) and allows us to spend time with our loved ones. Playing games and catching up with our family is one of the great things about the holidays. Unfortunately, the holidays don’t place us in a bubble immune from harm. That is why, even though we want to have unbounded fun, it’s important to keep some safety tips in mind. Here are some holiday safety tips which will help you stay safe during these wintery days.
Decorating Tips
- Christmas Trees – If you are using a real tree, be sure that it’s well watered to avoid any dry branches from catching fire. Using plastic ornaments will save you money because they don’t break easily, and also will save you a trip to the hospital if the glass cuts any children or pets.
- Lights – Use a timer with your decorative lights, and time them to turn off around Leaving them on while you are sleeping leaves you susceptible to fires.
Safe Food Tips
- Defrosting – Never defrost food at room temperature–thaw your food in the refrigerator, cold water, or in the microwave. This will significantly slow down bacterial growth and keep the food fresher, longer.
- Alcohol – When serving alcohol, make sure to keep tabs on how much you have consumed. Ensure that designated drivers don’t drink, and don’t serve alcohol to adults or children under the age of 21.
