Most Frequently Asked Questions About Car Seats

Most Frequently Asked Questions About Car Seats | Auto Insurance in Orange, CAWhen it comes to car seats and the safety of your baby, questions are only natural.

New parents have many thoughts running through their heads: Is my baby okay? Are they hungry? Do they need their diaper changed? Do I need to update my auto insurance? Why won’t they go to sleep! Faced with new responsibilities and tasks that come with parenthood, new parents can sometimes feel overwhelmed when it comes to important safety things like car seat selection, installation, and proper usage. If you think you’re alone, you’re not; it’s you and every other new parent in the world. With that in mind, here are some commonly asked questions about car seats.

  1. Where is the safest place to install the car seat?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that car seats should never be placed in the front seat. Use the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) to attach your car seat and use the middle seat when doing so. Press down on the car seat and tighten to make sure the seat doesn’t move from side to side more than an inch.

  1. How do I know my baby is safe?

It’s important that you keep the harness on your child snuggly. Use the pinch test: if you can pinch the harness straps at the shoulder and gather seat belt material, it’s too loose! Make sure to cinch it down.

  1. How long can I keep my car seat?

Car seats do have expiration dates because of the normal wear that comes from repeated use. The expiration date of your car seat can be found on the back or side of the car seat.
