Four “Windy” Questions Answered About Your California Home Insurance
Since we are in the midst of “windy” season here in Southern California…we thought we could be of some help by answering some of the most commonly asked wind-insurance questions. Your California home insurance may or may not cover all of these aspects, but it’s worth a call to your agent to find out!
Q. The wind blew my fence over…are the repairs covered by my insurance?
A. Generally a fence would only be covered if it is attached to the main house structure or if additional coverage was purchased to cover it. Fences are a bit of a gray area because most times they are shared with a neighbor.
Q. A tree hit my car due to the harsh winds, now what?
A. Damage caused by falling debris (such as trees) should be covered by your California auto insurance “comprehensive” coverage. That is coverage for any loss that is not crash-related such as: fire, wind, flood, trees etc.
Q. A tree fell on my home, am I covered?
A. Usually if a tree falls toward your home, and creates damage, both the damage to the home and the removal of the tree are covered within the California home insurance policy. Tree removal should be done by a professional company that it endorsed by your insurance agent – in order to prevent any further damages.
