Encourage Your Kids to Keep Learning During Summer Break

Learn how you can keep your children engaged this summer.

Just because the school year has ended doesn’t mean that your kids have to stop learning and developing.  In fact, there are many different things that you can do to ensure that your kids are continuing to develop their reading and critical thinking skills.  Here are some of the things you can do to keep your children engaged this summer.

Encourage Them to Read

One way to keep your kids engaged is by encouraging them to read during their summer break.  One way to promote a love of reading is by taking your kids on weekly trips to the library where they will have a wide variety of books to choose from.  If your kids need a little more incentive to get going, then consider offering them small rewards every time they meet a reading goal.  For instance, promising your child a small treat or present every time they finish a new book will help them stay motivated.

Introduce Them to Educational Games

Today, many kids spend their days playing video or computer games.  However, most popular games do not offer any educational benefits.  Rather than allowing your child you waste their day playing these mindless games, you should make an effort to introduce them to educational games that require logic or critical thinking skills.  As many educational games now come in a familiar digital format, they will appeal to your children while still serving beneficial purposes.

Sign Them Up for Summer Classes or Camps

Finally, you might want to consider signing your child up for supplemental summer classes or educational summer camp programs.  Not only will these classes or camps encourage your child to go out and make friends, but they will also ensure that your child continues to develop the necessary academic skills.  Just make sure that you do not sign your child up for too many extra classes; they should still have plenty of time to just enjoy being a kid.
