Electronic Insurance ID Cards Approved in California
On September 8th, Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 1708 herein California to allow drivers to show proof of insurance electronically by using their smart phone.
This newly approved way of showing proof of auto insurance will take effect across California in the months to come but will take a lot of adjusting for some residents. California has always been considered “ahead of the technology times” compared to other states here in the United States, the no it’s drivers will always be equip with their electronic copy of their proof of insurance wherever they go.
This bill will also allow insurance carriers to send their customers a paper copy of their California auto insurance id card, or receive an electronic copy to save into their cellular device. Customers who do not yet have smart phones, or opt out of this newly approved technology will not be affected as they will still receive their paper copies each renewal period. Alabama and Colorado also have similar bills in the works, and plan to modernize their use of technology soon.
