California Home Insurance Home Inventory Guide
Have you ever considered what will happen if your home was completely lost in a fire? Luckily here in California, we really only need to worry about fires and earthquakes when it comes to a total loss unlike the rest of the country that dodged hurricanes and tornados. Losses like this should be covered by your California home insurance policy (if you obtain the proper coverage) but once it’s all gone, would you really remember each piece of furniture and article of clothing in your home?
Remland Insurance along with the Department of Insurance website would like to suggest that you take some time this weekend and fill out this “Home Inventory Guide,” as a precautionary measure to be sure your home and valuables are properly recorded in-case of a total loss. Once the document has been filled out completely and photographs have been added, we suggest you keep the completed paperwork “off-site” meaning away from the home, possibly in a safety deposit box or at the office.
Your California home insurance limits should cover the total amount of damages if a complete loss occurs, but as a homeowner you can never be too prepared for this type of situation. A fire-proof box to hold valuables is also a great solution to keep near a window or home exit in case you must evacuate in a hurry.
