3 Ways to Avoid Workout Related Injuries

stethescopeHow to get in shape without injury.

One of your New Year’s resolutions may have been to spend less time on the couch, and more time hitting the gym to become a healthier person. Then, wanting to see your results as quick as possible, you dive into your workout regiment only to immediately feel something in one of your joints or muscles. An injury has now set you back, and you’re forced to sit out a few weeks.

Sometimes it’s about doing the right activity for your body type. To avoid these preventable injuries, and workout smarter, follow these helpful steps you can take to get the most out of your next workout.

  1. Always Warm Up

It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting out, or have already sculpted your body to look like a Greek God/Goddess—you will decrease your chances of succumbing to injury if you take a few minutes to warm up before every workout. Overestimating your strength or endurance will lead to improper technique, and will severely increase your chances of injury.

And remember to go at your pace! If you treat it like one, the only one to lose will be you.

  1. Hire a Trainer

Hiring a certified trainer for a few lessons is one of the best ways to avoid injury, and improve your technique (especially if you’re just starting out). This will prevent any misalignment in your body as your lift, which can help you avoid injury long-term.

Expert advice will help you avoid the wrong workouts for your body, moderate your routines, and will aid in the appropriate evolution of your workout routine.

  1. “Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself”

The best way to avoid injury is to know your physical capabilities and limitations.

For example, if you know you have knee issues you should avoid trying to run on a treadmill, as this is a high-impact exercise. Instead, try a stationary bike or an elliptical which are low-impact exercises and will help you lose weight, while possible strengthening your knee over time.
