$1.5 Billion in Insurance Claims in 2014
California is a beautiful place to live year-round with little to no extreme weather that can cause damages, injuries and even in some cases death. This year of winter storms across the nation has been more extreme than most years and according to the Insurance Information Institute, it has caused more than $1.5 billion in insured losses to date.
The large figure of $1.5 billion covers damages recorded between January 1st and February 21st so we can expect this number to grow in parts of the country where winter is still hitting hard. Over 175,000 claims have been filed by insurance holders thus far and losses range from roof damage to pipe bursts. Damages listed are not strictly home claims; many auto insurance claims have been filed due to the extreme road conditions across the states. So unless your home is made of plastic or some other waterproof, earthquake proof, snow proof or storm proof material it is important to get the proper coverage!
If you plan to travel, rent a home or vehicle – be sure to call your California insurance agent and secure travel insurance that will give you the extra coverage needed while away from home.
